Currently underway in Port Elizabeth with a pool of very strong chess players vying for the top honoursThe Boardwalk proudly plays host to the 2019 Boardwalk Pearson Open Chess Open for the second consecutive year from 25 March to 3 April 2019. Chess grandmasters as well as emerging chess players will be competing in the event which is accredited and recognized by the World Chess Federation (Federation Internationale des Echecs, known as FIDE from its French acronym). The Grandmasters (GM) Norm field – which is by invitation only – features players from India, France and Belarus who will compete from 25 March to 3 April in a series of competitions. The FIDE Open – open to all players – will take place from 28 to 31 March and the Development section – for primary school learners – will take place on 30 March. The GM Norm Field and FIDE Open will be rated by FIDE, Chess South Africa (CHESSA), and the URS. Chess players are called to register to compete in the 2019 Boardwalk Pearson Open Chess Open before 20h00 on 25 March.
Flighted as one of the top rated FIDE chess tournament and under the guiding hand of Doctor Mokoena and Paul Matsie the tournament is a must attend for all chess enthusiasts who travel afar to participate and fight for top honours.
