Chess Practise (UFH CHESS CLUB)
Practise is everyday inside the sports complex from 5pm to 8pm Mondays to Thursdays. Weekends and Fridays are set aside for blitz games and theory study times.

TOURNAMENTS
The first trials were held over a period of two days and most of the club members took part
One of the top FIDE rated tournaments in the country and prestigious honour for those that attend as there get too rub shoulders with the top chess players and enthusiasts from all the African domain.
All this given this tournament promises to be one of the best tournaments to be hosted by the University of Hare chess-wise. One key aspect is that it will be FIDE rated and will host a number of mzansi's top players and those from outside. Logistical issues once addressed even the winning will be enticing enough to put the institutions name out there with the rest of the best of the best in terms of chess hosting and etiquette.

UNDER THE UMBRELLA AUSPICES OF YCLSA, THIS TOURNAMENT WILL SEE THE WINNERS WALKING AWAY WITH MEDALS AND PRIZE MONEYS AS PART OF BLITZ FRIDAY MAYHEM AT THE INSTITUTES MAIN CAMPUS IN ALICE
As all this tournament pulls in players from all walks of life and has become a prestigious event attended by many enthusiasts, chess players that eat breath and live chess.
Currently underway in Port Elizabeth with a pool of very strong chess players vying for the top honoursThe Boardwalk proudly plays host to the 2019 Boardwalk Pearson Open Chess Open for the second consecutive year from 25 March to 3 April 2019. Chess grandmasters as well as emerging chess players will be competing in the event which is accredited and recognized by the World Chess Federation (Federation Internationale des Echecs, known as FIDE from its French acronym). The Grandmasters (GM) Norm field – which is by invitation only – features players from India, France and Belarus who will compete from 25 March to 3 April in a series of competitions. The FIDE Open – open to all players – will take place from 28 to 31 March and the Development section – for primary school learners – will take place on 30 March. The GM Norm Field and FIDE Open will be rated by FIDE, Chess South Africa (CHESSA), and the URS. Chess players are called to register to compete in the 2019 Boardwalk Pearson Open Chess Open before 20h00 on 25 March.
Flighted as one of the top rated FIDE chess tournament and under the guiding hand of Doctor Mokoena and Paul Matsie the tournament is a must attend for all chess enthusiasts who travel afar to participate and fight for top honours.
